Is the Master Cleanse good for weight loss?
The main purpose of the Master Cleanse is just that, to cleanse the body. Cleansing the body means to detoxify it, as well as flush it out.
Detoxing is the process of removing harmful substances and toxins from the body. Harmful body substances include things like caffeine, processed sugars and fats, as well as chemical additives and other substances.
Flushing the body out is necessary occasionally because many of those substances can stick to the walls of the digestive system and cause blockages. Blockages, in turn, can cause serious medical problems, including causing toxins to backup and saturate the cells and blood vessels in the body.

That works in much the same way that a drain in a sink or tub works. When the drain is clogged, the sink backs up and becomes full of water and other materials. When the drain is cleared and flushed all the excess water is removed. Since most of that water weight is lost within a few days of starting the Master Cleanse process, continuing on the Master Cleanse longer than 10 days just to lose more weight is not effective. In most cases, those weight-loss effects aren’t permanent and a lot of that weight is gained back shortly after a person stops the Master Cleanse anyway.
Most successful weight-loss diets involve both dieting and exercise combined. The Master Cleanse is not an exercise program. It is also not designed for fatty tissue weight-loss or for building of muscles. In fact, the Master Cleanse is designed only to sustain the body efficiently during the brief process of detoxifying and cleansing the system.
The body requires a certain amount of energy to function properly every day. It needs even more energy to do extra activity such as exercising and breaking down fat tissue.
Any energy that is gained from the Master Cleanse lemon drink goes into detoxifying and healing. Therefore, most people actually have little or no extra energy for exercise while on the Master Cleanse. In fact, many people find that, for a few days during the Master Cleanse process, they experience tiredness and fatigue to the point of having trouble performing normal daily tasks. This only lasts a very short while, but it is definitely not ideal conditions for proper, healthy weight loss.
The Master Cleanse diet does many wonderful things, but it is not a good idea for someone whose primary goal is to lose large amounts of weight. That said, going on the cleanse is a fantastic way to kick start your diet because it will automatically wipe out bad eating habits and replace them with healthy ones.
